Synopsis
故事发生在第二次世界大战爆发后不久,处于青春期的马尔克因脖子上格外凸出的喉结而引起了皮伦茨的注意。在皮伦茨的眼里,一动一动的喉结好似一只不停蹿跃的老鼠。他便恶作剧地将一只猫按在马尔克的脖子上,让它去捉那只"老鼠"。逐渐增大的喉结给马尔克带来了苦恼,为了引开人们对他的喉结的注意,他想方设法做出许多不平凡的事迹：潜水,在脖子上戴各种饰物……为了得到一样遮掩喉结的东西,他甚至偷走了一名海军军官的铁十字勋章,结果被学校除名。在军队里,马尔克因作战英勇、战绩卓著而获得了一枚铁十字勋章。衣锦还乡的马尔克一心想在母校作一次报告,恢复过去受到损害的名誉。然而,由于学校校长从中作梗,马尔克未能如愿。一气之下,他打了那个校长,然后逃上他在中学时代经常去玩的一条沉船,潜入密舱,从此再也没有出现。
