Synopsis
在世界民族之林中，德意志是一个无法回避、又极难书写的对象。一方面，它不仅在欧洲中世纪里扮演着颇为重要的角色，而且在19世纪以来的全球历史演进中以其光彩（科学艺术方面的成就）与窘迫（两次世界大战的发起者）的双重形象，成为无数研究者的目标。另一方面，正如本书导言所指出的那样，所谓“德意志史”，若以现代民族国家的视野去回溯，必然遭遇很多棘手问题，如疆界变动频繁、民族意识淡薄等。正因如此，书写一部“德意志史”，既需要一种敏锐而宏大的世界眼光，又必须借助一种超越19世纪以来人们习以为常的民族史套路的创新立场。新世纪以来，德国史学界在这一方面的探索不可谓不多，本书是众多成果之一。 本书的叙述内容从6世纪开始，一直持续到柏林共和国（即联邦共和国）时期的2012年。作者们努力突破民族史框架，站在欧洲史与全球史的角度去讨论德意志史的演进历程。整本著作以通俗易懂的方式来呈现历史事件，但又不是以通俗史学的方式来书写。作者们都是专业学者，但尽量以让读者感兴趣的方式来编写，使之对德国历史感兴趣。与其他德意志史读本相比，本书的优势明显：它的篇幅不大，言简意赅；以时间为序，书中每一章由这一领域的学者书写，反映了新研究成果；附有详细的文献指南，为延伸研究提供方便。
