Synopsis
The Twenty-Four Histories is divided into 3,249 volumes in 42,000,000 words to record the histories before the Qing Dynasty. It is presented in a series of biographies systematically and completely. It became an authorized ""official history"" in the Qing Dynasty and also a complete record of the history of Chinese civilization before the Qing Dynasty. Some domestic experts and scholars were invited by the Zhonghua Book Company to revise the vertical version in traditional Chinese according to the Plan of Simplifying Chinese Characters issued by the State Council and the General List of Simplified Chinese Characters issued by the State Language Affairs Commission. The detail requirements of arrangement of ancient books were also combined to offer a horizontal version in simplified Chinese in order that readers could have an easier access to read and refer to the informative contents.
