Synopsis
Fenghuang library · Series of Politicss Forefront: Politics of Shakespeare collects four pieces of papers, which interprets Shakespeares four classics from four perspectives: exploring the possibility of multiracial and multi-faith society from the confrontation of Christianity and Judaism (The Merchant of Venice), exploring confrontation of civic characteristics and its universal in political community(Othello), revealling the fatal flaw of idealism and realism in politics and society (Julius Caesar), as well as limitations of political life (King Lear). Modern people maybe laugh at the greedy Shylock easily, refute the pedantic and short-sighted Othello, despise Caesars blind and arrogant. Maybe we could summarize the tragedy of Lear to his stupid and incompetent, however, Bloom and Jaffa reveal the rational cause behind peoples behavior. From author, Alan Bloom and Harry Jaffas view, the protagonists are all noble people, and their dignity is that they are living by rational and strictly respecting ethical life that they believe. However, unfortunate thigns are caused by borning with dignity.
