Synopsis
王子放生了国王的金鱼，因此被驱逐出宫。流浪中他结识了一位青年。两人来到了一座城，见城中的人都很悲伤，原来这里的公主每次婚嫁的第四十个夜晚，新郎都会死去。青年让王子娶了公主，并设计逼出了藏在公主身体中的白蛇，然后制服了它。正是这条白蛇吃掉了新郎，而青年原来就是王子曾经放生的金鱼。作者保留原故事的精华，又修改了一些有时代局限，不适合孩子阅读的情节，使故事内容体现了社会主义价值观指导下的思想性、趣味性。
