Synopsis
雷卡纳蒂是当代语言哲学的领军人物，《直接引语与间接引语：元表征论》是其语言哲学的重要代表作。本书从日常语言学派的立场和语境论的视角专题研究元表征论题，在学界颇具影响。按照元表征论，话语与思想因表征事态而具有内容。事态包含实体，实体具有特性且与其他实体结成关系。如此藉由语言或心理表征的实体包括语言表征与心理表征本身。通过语言表征或心理表征，人们可以谈论或思考自己的或他人的言语与思想。雷卡纳蒂区分两种表征，即一位表征或“对象表征”与元表征。并且强调，一位表征并非绝对，而只是相对的。本书后半部分对语境转变做出了系统分析。这些分析同直接引语的分析紧密联系。正是由于元表征内嵌能力及其所基于的自反性模拟能力是人类认知的重要特征，自然语言中内在于许多引语现象的语境转变过程最终依赖于另一种重要的认知能力，即顺从能力，这一能力在学习与理论建构过程中起着举足轻重的作用。
