Synopsis
《出曜经》作为有最完整、最庞大喻群的佛教譬喻经，共三十卷，三十四品，一百八十三篇比喻故事。这部巨制鸿篇，由印度的法救菩萨汇编。汉译为十六国后秦(384—417)又称姚秦时期，僧人竺佛念译出。竺佛念，《高僧传》卷一云：“凉州人，弱年出家，志业清坚，外和内朗，有通敏之鉴，讽习众经，粗涉外典。其苍雅诂训，尤所明达。”他出生在今天的甘肃武威，早年出家。在长安译出的经典有《菩萨璎珞经》《十住》《断结》《出曜经》《胎经》《中阴经》等，为佛门一代宗师。 《出曜经》全经系由诗颂即优陀那，意为佛陀自说，以及注释诗颂的故事，即阿波陀那，意为譬喻所组成。“出曜”是梵文意译，在这里意指“譬喻”，即本经系以譬喻或寓言方式说甚妙教义。“出曜”一词在汉译时，被认为出自《诗经》的“日出有曜”。因此，出曜意为“太阳升起带来的光明”，即把经中的譬喻故事，比喻为“如太阳的光明照亮一切黑暗”。笔者初步勘定《出曜经》为一百八十三篇。
