《皇極經世書》，宋邵雍撰，以元、會、運、世四個概念推演歷史演變与興衰，起於帝堯甲辰終至後周顯徳六年己未，興亡治亂之蹟皆以卦象推之，因取法乎周易“元亨利貞”之方，故有“易外别傳”之稱。實際上是我國古典時代的“歷史哲學”。朱熹極為推崇此書，說： “自易以後無人做得一物，如此整齊包括得盡。”甚至言：“康節（邵雍）易看了，却看别人的不得”。 據說邵雍當日以此書占驗，無不奇中，因此厯代都推重此書，然而該書的內容絕非術數而已。也深涉歷史興亡與修身治世的哲思，比如，邵雍說“天下之事始過於重，猶卒於輕；始過於厚，猶卒於薄。”又說：“學以人事為大。”又如：“治生於亂，亂生於治，聖人貴未然之防，是謂易之大綱。”“天下將治，則人必尚義也；天下將亂，則人必尚利也。尚義則謙讓之風行焉，尚利則攘奪之風行焉。”因此《四庫全書總目提要》評價此書：“類皆立義正大，垂訓深切，是經世一書雖明天道，而實責成於人事。洵粹然儒者之言。”
