Synopsis
本书是坊间第一本儒学现代化通史，填补了这方面的学术空白。本书突破了“明清之际启蒙思想”的传统观点，将儒学现代化的开端上推到宋代儒学，但又不同于日本学者内藤湖南提出的“唐宋变革”观点，对“近代性”或“现代性”概念提出了自己独立的界定。本书的研究方法打破了既有的史学“中国思想史”和哲学“中国哲学史”之间的学科藩篱，既注重儒家思想发展与中国社会经济政治发展之间的互动，又注意儒家思想推进的内在理路。本书在“儒学的现代性”问题上也提出了一系列新观点，尤其是关于“儒学与个体性观念”的观点。
