Synopsis
这部《古典名物词典》，英文版全称应当译作《古典古物及神话学、宗教、文学与艺术词典》初版于1891年，同年第二版，1895年第三版（不知何故，书中所标版次年期有误）。影印使用的底本是1899年第四版。这是根据一部德文辞书翻译和修订而成的，原作问世于1882年，书题全称是《古典古物学辞典：希腊罗马文化史，涉及神话宗教、文学艺术与城邦和私人生活的古物》涉及的范围涉及到了当时西方古典学有关古希腊罗马文物的所有领域以及文学和神话里的所有主题。这部《古典古物学辞典》涵盖范围广泛，合乎当时德国人文素养教育的需要，因此受到了英语学界的注意，将之译成英文本。而值得一提的是，这部书的价值经久不衰，2000年巴寨罗那还推出了一个新的西班牙语译本，题为《希腊与罗马神话学词典》。
