Synopsis
西蒙在本书中给出的关于经济学究竟应该如何研究的看法，可以为三个点：理性和经济决定、企业组织和市场交易，以及实证分析和经济学。西蒙认为，经济学理论除了满足人类特有的求知好奇的本性外，还应该帮助和指导企业的实际管理和运营，它必须是一套描述真实世界的理论，而不是一套“假设”的理论，最后，经济学理论还应该有助于理解和指导经济的运行。基于此，西蒙提出基于实践来研究经济学，本书正是西蒙坚持实践研究主义的结晶，对于中国也极有现实意义。全书共分为三部分，第一部分为西蒙的三场讲演，涉及决策中的理性、组织在市场中的角色，以及经济学的实证根据。第二部分则是各个著名学者与西蒙的“交锋”，他们既表达了对西蒙的尊敬，也毫不留情地对某些论点提出批判，并借势提出自己的论点。最后一部分，西蒙对各学者的评论一一回应。学者之间你来我往，互相切磋，而这些精粹，皆在此书中呈现。
