Synopsis
At mid 19th century when the nearby place of Central Park in New York was still a slum, poor boy Dick lived there. He made a living in the day by shining shoes for the passing merchants and in the night he curled up in a pile of old newspapers and fell asleep. When he earned a little more money, he would go to the hospice and spent 6 cents eating a supper with coffee and sleep for a night there. One day, Dick met a child from a rich family and showed him around the city for a day. In order to thank Dick for taking care of the child, the childs father told Dick his story of how he became a successful entrepreneur from an apprentice and encouraged him that poverty was not the obstacle to success in this country but that there was one thing more important than money and that was thirst for knowledge and studiousness. These instructional words enlightened Dick and he realized the chance to improve himself in the bustle and hustle of the metropolis.
