In 2005 the Chinese painter Gao Xiang and French journalist Luc Richard started off from Shanghai to walk to the origin of Qinghai against the Yangtze River. During the journey they walked on foot, took ship, rented cars, took a lift in the tractor and used all the local transportation they could use to try all they could to approach the path of the river flowing to the broadest regions. Through walking the two authors used painting and writing to record the geography, culture and ecology of Yangtze River and its bank where tremendous changes have taken place. And this is not a regular travelog or landscape sketch but a precious and rigid field investigation about the Yangtze River, of which the two authors made a brave investigation of the Yangtze River with artistic and documentary value with their care and praise towards ecology.
