Lu Xun was the pen name of Zhou Shuren (1881 1936), one of the major Chinese writers of the 20th century. Considered by many to be the leading figure of modern Chinese literature, he wrote in baihua (the vernacular) as well as classical Chinese. His short story collection, A Call to Arms is often taken to mark the beginning of modern Chinese literature, and is an established classic.
