诗人林莽的一部诗学随笔。主要分为三个部分，头一部分是诗人林莽根据几十年诗歌写作、诗歌评论的经验，总结出的一种理解诗歌、写作诗歌的公式；第二部分，是作者几十年创作、编辑工作中写就的一些描述诗歌现状、回顾诗歌历史、阐述诗歌主张的笔记体文章。第三部分，是诗人对十几首中外诗歌的点评，点评中所依凭的理论体系，大多是在前两个部分中反复阐明的。
