《寻找光明记忆：工厂故事》是光明的故事，也是深圳的故事；是深圳经济参与全球化的故事，也是共和国又一代奋斗者的故事。本书通过田野调查记录传统工业转型现代工业，在大潮激荡的城市化进程中的蜕变过程，直面普通劳动者的生存状态，撰写他们的精神面貌的文字，记录梳理在地史。 二十世纪八九十年代以来的深圳工厂，不同于二十世纪五十年代末兴建的光明农场，其崛起的原因、产生的效应，都与世界经济有着密切的关联。光明虽然不是深圳当代工厂的发轫之地，光明工厂的体量也算不上庞大，但光明的工厂依然是全球工厂的有机组成部分，是深圳经济参与全球化具体而微的见证。本书作为深圳工厂故事的一个缩影，作者团队寻访改革开放之初深圳光明工厂创建与发展的参与者或者见证者，走访当年的工厂或现在的园区，整理工厂紧密相连的人与事，记录伴随经济特区建设在光明留存的独特记忆。其中既有细腻的场景和感性的人物描写，亦有宏大社会背景和理性分析，展现了创业者与打工者的奋斗精神。
