Computer Engineering Distributed Operating Systems Concepts and Design This thoughtfully organized, nonmathematical introduction to distributed operating systems details the fundamental concepts and design principles of a technology that, with the proliferation of computer networks, is emerging as one of the hottest areas in computer science and engineering. Distributed Operating Systems will provide engineers, educators, and researchers with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental concepts and current state of the art in the full range of distributed operating system components. Each chapter addresses de facto standards, popular technologies, and design principles applicable to a wide variety of systems. Complete with chapter summaries, end-of-chapter exercises and bibliographies, Distributed Operating Systems concludes with a set of case studies that provide real-world insights into four distributed operating systems. You'll find comprehensive coverage of all major issues in the field:
* Interprocess communication
* Distributed shared memory
* Synchronization
* Resource and process management
* File management
* Naming
* Security
* End-of-chapter pointers to the on-line bibliographies of interest posted on the Internet
* A multitude of design options, and more!
