Grade 4-6. Children will immediately recognize many of those clever "tricks" and helpful mnemonics their teachers use in this collection of math-related activities. The book has a succinct, easy-to-read format; helpful illustrations; and alphabetical organization. Each entry includes "What You Will Need" in order to perform the activity, "What to Do" (and answers when needed), and "Other Things to Do," which expand upon or present variations on a theme. For example, a formula is offered, based on one's birth date, to figure out the day of the week on which the subject was born. A pattern for making tangram puzzles and several topological tricks are included. Many of these amusements can be done by youngsters with little background in mathematics, yet the writing style can be appreciated by older readers as well.?Linda Wadleigh, Oconee County Middle School, Watkinsville, GA
