He has made several significant archaeological explorations in our country during the past three decades, alone, or with other explores like Sir Aurel Stein, Dr Mortimer Wheeler, and N.G. Mazumdar. Having organised the Temple Survey Project (North Region) of the Archaeological Survey of India, he conducted a systematic architectural survey of the temples of North India in general and Central India in particular.
