From the beginning of time, diamonds have had a mystique about them that sets them apart from other gems. They have found mention in religion, mythology, folklore, and many an urban legend. They are the symbol of power, wealth, and royalty, and no crown has ever been complete without them. But the beauty of diamonds contrasts with the complex and harsh processes that are undertaken to make them. The fascinating journey of diamonds, from the coal mine to the jeweller's desk, has not yet been documented in such detail, or with such insight. This documentation is necessary for all those interested in the diamond industry and its changing face in recent times. Diamonds brings together the work of a write and two photographers, all of whom specialize in the diamond industry. From the history of diamonds and diamond cutting, to the change in laws and the way the pipeline had shaped up, this is an extensive book on the subject.

About the Author:
Donald Barry Woodrow, born in New York in 1946, has been photographing diamonds for thirty-five years on five continents. Working for prominent diamond mining, cutting and jewellery companies, Woodrow is considered to be the world's leading diamond photographer. His images appear in international trade and fashion magazines. Woodrow seeks to show the mystery at the heart of the stone as a marvel of nature. As he says, 'One can look at a diamond and just see a stone, or, one can realise that this stone has a long history and many hidden mysteries. The mind of the photographer becomes the eye. This way the image produced becomes richer and more beautiful. 'Antwerp-based photographer Laurent Boeki has been photographing diamonds and jewellery for over twenty years. His fascination for the industry originated in his family's diamond trading history. Boeki's love for travelling, his ability to control both light and subject, and his passion for computers gives him a unique niche in this market, ranging from solid rock to beautiful digital diamond imaging.
