Synopsis

The book explains the population trends in the world and India, and how it is impacting the environment. The role of public participation in promoting environmental sustainability is explored too.

About the Author

Mr R N Bhargava is Chairman cum Managing Director of Ecomen Laboratories Pvt. Ltd, a Lucknow based company providing expertise in all aspects of Environment and Forestry. He is an executive from Corporate Sector (Tata Steel). He is an Engineer, and MBA from PGDBM (XLRI). Mr Bhargava is also Environmental Auditor from IEMA (also a full member), UK He has 56 years of experience and exclusive 25 years of experience in environmental monitoring, testing, studies and preparation of EIA/EMP reports (nearly 100). Mr Bharagava has authored a few books and contributed articles on environment in journals apart from presenting papers on various aspects of environment in renowned forums. Dr Rajaram is a geotechnical and environmental engineer with 41 years of work experience in the United States, Canada, and India. At present, he is the Director of Infrastructure for CCJM India, a subsidiary of CCJM in the United States. He is focusing his efforts on Smart Cities proposed all over India. He has a BE in Mining Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad, MS from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and PhD from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, USA. He obtained his degree in environmental and energy law from IIT Kent College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He has published 3 books, and written over 50 articles in international publications. Mr Keith Olson has a BS degree from Rocky Mountain College in Montana and a MS from New Mexico Highlands University in USA. Besides teaching, Mr Olson has been active in numerous environmental organizations. In Elmhurst, he was the chairman of a group responsible for a successful community recycling programme. A long-time member of the Sierra Club, he was chairman of the local chapter and the regional outing committee. Since 1977, he has headed groups, school and community, managing a natural area, a local prairie. Since 1996 he has been a member of the county environmental commission. Lynn Tiede is a National Board Certified, New York City public school teacher with 20 years of experience, teaching social studies, civics, and environmental education. Ms Tiede has worked tirelessly to green her school, local East Harlem community, and NYC. Ms Tiede was employed for two years as the Education Manager for the National Audubon Society. Lynn Tiede received her BA in Anthropology/Sociology from Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee MA from the City University of New York. She has worked on various sustainability projects via entities such as Community Board #11, the Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board, Borough President Scott Stringer s Go Green East Harlem Initiative , and is a two time winner of the Department of Sanitation s Team Up to Clean Up Award for recycling programmes created at her school. Lynn received a Fulbright Indo American Environmental Leadership Fellowship to study environmental sustainability and education initiatives in India in 2005. Lynn has continued to study environmental education and sustainability issues in both China and South Africa through the China Institute (2009) and National Endowment for the Humanities (2012).
