In Classical Terminology, 'forest management' is related only to sustained production of goods from forests, especially timber. In the modern concept, forest management is a multi-dimensional proces, which in addition to sustaining the production of wood and non-wood forest products, aims at maintaining stability of the environment and ensuring equitable distribution of benefits derived from forests to various sections of society. The book covers both the classical approach and modern perceptions in forest management. The book is primarily meant to serve the needs of forestry students, both professional and academic, but it would be susbstantially useful to serving forestors also.
