On being elected to the chair of professor of Arabic in Hugli College author found that the want of an Arabic elementary grammar was greatly felt by the Arabic students of the Calcutta University. Therefore the author compiled such a grammar as his thought was needed in the Urdu language and modelled it on the concise and simple plan of European grammars. Encouraged by the success of the above compilation author have been induced to publish an Arabic grammar in English the language in which University examinations are conducted. In compiling this humble work author have adopted a method which partakes of both the European and the oriental scheme and thus have tried to render the book well adapted to the capacities of Indian students. At the end of the book appended an essay on the Arabic language and literature which will be useful to students. The introductory part of the essay was once published in the Calcutta review with some philological notes by the editor. 264 pp. Seller Inventory # 66772
