Food-intake by and nutritional status of its citizens has been a widely debated topic for academicians, policy makers and governments in Indian and other developing economies and due to the persistence of malnutrition, it will continue to be so for a long time to come. This book is one such attempt to estimate food-intake and nutritional status of rural people in two coastal villages of Andhra Pradesh. It uses both secondary (NSSO) and primary data collection from a canal irrigated village and a rain-fed tank irrigated village. It studies the differences in the levels of food-intake and nutritional status of households between the two villages, among different castes, occupations and among different members of the households. It further studies the sources of food items, food habits and frequency of food-intake by different members of the households.
