9788200408741: Health Policy Development for Disadvantaged Groups (A Scandinavian University Press Publication)

Synopsis

This book discusses the health problems of certain disadvantaged segments of the European population who often do not have very strong advocates to support them. These include the long-term mentally ill, segments of the elderly population, those in hazardous work environments, the unemployed, and adolescents. In the present time of privatization, competition and marketing in the health sector, there is a need for concentrating on such disadvantaged groups. Several chapters of the book focus on Europe, and the authors make conclusions and advice for policy developments. A final chapter suggests a research strategy that will, through participatory approaches, contribute to the empowerment of disadvantaged groups.
