Soft cover. Condition: Good. Scarce paperback, fully bilingual (Polish & English), 90 pages [+2] + 1 DVD in rear pocket, illustrated throughout, NOT ex-library. Interior shows gentle offset marks (colour illustrations), two pencil lines in text (p.11), else clean and bright with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps. Shelfworn marks on the cover. -- "This is the first national study of women's rituals celebrated at the end of the carnival period. Ethnographic studies that documented contemporary rites were recorded on film. Moreover, we attempted to reconstruct the old forms of the rituals by studying archival materials: recorded interviews, press cuttings, photos, legal acts and 19th century ethnographers' accounts. We visited eight places where we observed carnival celebrations, talked with the participants and looked through their private archives. As a result, we are proud to present the "Women's Carnivals" with an accompanying DVD, as well as a virtual exhibition [.], which in the future we are planning to transform into an archive. Our research team consisted of ethnographers and culture experts from the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw and the University of Warsaw. [.] The book is divided into two sections.
