This bird, the biggest of all birds in Poland, has the ability of hiding, melting into the background so that it becomes completely invisible. It is cautious and moves with great reserve; thus it can easily escape your sight. So, although we know it well from novels, titles and site names, hardly anyone has seen it or just heard its voice. The bird we are talking about is the crane, the symbol of prudence, inhabitant of swamps and steppes. Although bound to its habitat, the crane has made a small step towards humans, which has helped it to survive: it has learned to look for its food in fields quite close to human holdings. The story of the crane is at the same time the story of the four seasons and changes they bring about in forests, marshes and fields." -- Contents: From the Authors; Presentation; Return; Mating; Nest; Progeny; Farewell; Future; In Search of Cranes. -- Grzegorz Klosowski, born in 1952, is a painter. Tomasz Klosowski, born in 1949, is a journalist. For over thirty years they have specialized in taking photos of Polish wildlife. Their passion is to show rare, endangered species of fauna and flora, and draw readers' attention to overlooked beauty of the world we live in. They like swamps, rich in different species of fauna and flora but often destroyed for short-term profits. Their favourite workplace is the Biebrza Swamp, where for years they have been documenting the beauty of the Biebrza National Park. They produced many photo reports and illustrations for magazines, calendars and scientific publications (such as 'Birds of Poland' and 'Birds of Silesia'). Also by the same authors: 'Birds of the Biebrza Swamp', 'Beavers', 'Stork: The Polish Bird', 'Poland: Natural Wonders'. Seller Inventory # 004443
