Viaje al corazón de Cuba is an examination of the last forty years of Cuban history recounting the events that led to what was originally a fight for freedom and democracy but which instead under the leadership of Fidel Castro became a communist dictatorship.
The author provides a brief history of Cuba prior to 1952 with an overview of Castro's life, illustrating the events that led to the fight against Batista, the defeat of his 40,000-man army and the ultimate establishment of communist rule in Cuba.
This new book by the bestselling co-author of Manual del Perfecto Idiota Latinoamericano and Fabricantes de Miseria, Carlos Alberto Montaner, will provide answers for anyone interested in the current state of affairs in Cuba as well as what may be expected for the country in the future.

Text: Spanish
Montaner starts his biography of Fidel Castro noting that of all living political figures Castro stimulates the most interest. He ends the book with an epilog portraying Castro's hypothetical death and the subsequent decommunization of Cuba. Castro has been simply a disaster for Cuba. Interested in power for its own sake; devoid of loyalty to anything except his own conceptions and place in power; uncomfortable around those who grapple with ideas, such as Che Guevara, Castro has depended on charisma, fear, and Soviet support. In the last decade, Soviet support has ceased, his charisma has diminished, and fear has taken up the slack. Montaner paints an unchanged Castro and sketches the damage that this has caused his fellow Cubans: the exodus, the hunger, the prostitution, the poverty. A corroborating read for those who oppose Castro and a necessary one for those who don't.
