Shelley Read es licenciada en Escritura y Estudios Literarios por la Universidad de Denver y en Escritura Creativa de la Universidad de Temple. Durante casi tres décadas fue profesora titular en la Western Colorado University. Es colaboradora habitual de Crested Butte Magazine y Gunnison Valley Journal, y ha escrito para el Denver Post y diversas publicaciones. Como si fuera un río, su primera novela, se ha convertido en un fenómeno internacional. Read vive con su familia en Colorado, en la vertiente occidental de las montañas Elk.
