Pero el autor Jean-Jacques Lafaye también ha tratado de reconstruir al hombre desde su interior, estudiando el itinerario psicológico del rico vienés, coleccionista refinado, autor de éxito, pacifista convencido y progresista naïf que encarnaba para la élite de los intelectuales las mejores características de la vieja Europa.
