Synopsis

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The Nobel laureate returns with the second volume in his trilogy set in the fictional town of Vaim.

“A true heir to Kafka, Beckett, and Thomas Bernhard; an addictive mystic; and one of the greatest living writers. Don’t miss it.” —Javier Cercas

A new guest arrives at Hotel Vaim, the only guest in a hotel that is usually empty. The place is run by Brita, a rather peculiar, unreliable, and formidable woman who seems to recognize him from the past, though he would swear they have never met. The Guest settles into room 307 with his leather bag and two suitcases, unable to remember exactly what’s inside them, how long he plans to stay, or even what brought him there. As his stay unfolds, he begins to lose control not only of his belongings but of his own will, and he feels his identity slipping away in the spiral of events that slowly binds him to this strange place.

In this second installment of Jon Fosse’s trilogy set in the fictional town of Vaim, the author delivers a disquieting, fast-paced mystery laced with humor, where certainty and the rules of reality begin to dissolve. It marks a bold new turn in the work of the Nobel laureate.
