"José de Espronceda (Almendralejo, Badajoz, 1808-Madrid, 1842). España.Hijo de militar, estudió en el colegio San Mateo de Madrid. Muy joven fundó la sociedad secreta Los numantinos, y por ello fue recluido en el convento de San Francisco de Guadalajara. En 1826 huyó a Lisboa y allí se enamoró de Teresa Mancha, hija de un liberal, a la que siguió a Londres y luego raptó en París, poco después de que ella se casase con un comerciante español.Intervino en la revolución francesa de 1830 y en la expedición fracasada de Joaquín de Pablo contra el régimen absolutista de Fernando VII. De regreso a España (1832) fundó el periódico El Siglo y fue diputado republicano. Durante su destierro conoció a los autores románticos ingleses, franceses y alemanes, en quienes encontró un estilo más cercano a sus ideas."
