Synopsis
El Dhammapada, literalmente Camino de la Enseñanza, es considerado por los especialistas el texto cumbre del budismo. Consta de 423 versos en lengua pali clasificados en 26 capítulos, y forma parte de Khuddaka Nikaya, última colección del Sutta Pitaka, perteneciente al famoso Canon Pali. Esta obra, con una antiguedad de 2.300 años, contiene lo esencial de la enseñanza budista, y ha sido definida como el Manila ético-moral más perfecto que jamás se haya escrito. En él, la palabra de Buda nos acerca a la Triple Gema: moralidad en la conducta, cultivo de la mente y desarrollo de la sabiduría interior; nos señala las tres raíces del dolor: el autoengaño, la avidez y el odio, y nos muestra la vía de su superación: el autoconocimiento, el desapego y el amor. Cuando los discípulos pidieron a Buda que nombrase un sucesor, él contestó: "La enseñanza es el maestro", y el Dhammapada es, página a página, la médula misma de la enseñanza budista.
