Entre 1963, aproximadamente, y 1991, el cineasta hispano- cubano Nestor Almendros mantuvo una sostenida correspondencia con el escritor cubano Guillermo Cabrera Infante, continuacion de una larga amistad fraguada en La Habana durante la decada del cuarenta. Las cartas proceden de la Biblioteca Firestone de la Universidad de Pinceton y del archivo personal de Cabrera Infante, custodiado por su viuda, Miriam Gomez, quien, generosamente, aporto nuevos materiales entre ellos dos proyectos de guiones, asi como las imagenes que acompanan esta edicion. Esta coleccion de cartas de Almendros, cuidadosamente editada por Dunia Gras, muestra su trayectoria, desde su llegada al exilio, pasando por sus dificiles inicios en Paris, hasta su consagracion despues de recibir el oscar, y constituye, ademas, un testimonio de la entranable amistad entre el cineasta y el escritor.
