Rare Book
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Our edition follows the original version in Spanish, but comprises no less than 332 notes, adding more than 270 to the author’s own 58 lexicographic annotations on Quecha and Spanish unusual terms, so necessary to grasp the real power of her prose.
We believe that this annotated edition constitutes an important reading for all students of the indigenous cultures of South America.
If you include Birds without a Nest in your courses syllabus this is an edition worth considering: fully annotated and easily available in the US.
Clorinda Matto de Turner studied at the college of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes of Cuzco. After marrying, she continued her young literary career, writing poems and articles under various pseudonyms before working as a journalist for El Heraldo, El Mercurio, El Ferrocarril, and El Eco de los Andes. Her novel, Aves sin nido, was a forerunner of indigenous studies literature.
