About the Author:

Rudiger Safranski, escritor, ensayista y filosofo aleman, nacio en Rottweil, Baden-Württenberg, en 1945. Desde 1965 estudio filosofia, germanistica, historia e historia del arte en Frankfurt del Meno (con Theodor Adorno) y Berlin. En los años setenta trabajo como docente en la Universidad Libre de Berlin y fue redactor del Berliner Hefte. Desde 1987 se dedica en exclusiva a la escritura. Sus cuidadas biografias (entre las que destacan, ademas de la de Schopenhauer, las consagradas a Nietzsche, Heidegger o Schiller) contextualizan magistralmente la atmosfera cultural de la epoca y le han valido fama internacional. Su labor de ensayista le ha valido numerosos galardones, como los premios Friedrich Märker (1995), Ernst-Robert Curtius (1998), Friedrich Nietzsche (2000) o Friedrich Hölderlin (2006).
