Haruki Murakami (Kioto, 1949) estudió literatura en la Universidad de Waseda y regentó durante varios años un club de jazz. Es, en la actualidad, el autor japonés más prestigioso y reconocido en todo el mundo, merecedor de premios como el Noma, el Tanizaki, el Yomiuri, el Franz Kafka o el Jerusalem Prize.
