Nostalgic, witty, insightful, Sunny Side Up takes the reader behind the white walls of Spain and is a lament for a lost Eden. It vividly depicts a near-mediaeval way of life doomed to disappear as the maelstrom of progress hits the pueblo. Tourism and unprecedented prosperity herald new horizons as they undermine old values.

David Baird, journalist and photographer, has made his home in a village in southern Spain for more than 30 year and has an intimate knowledge of the area. He has worked on newspapers and magazines around the world and has reported on the Iberian peninsula and North Africa for many publications, including The Economist, the International Herald Tribune, the Daily Telegraph, The Scotsman and Maclean's Magazine. Apart from Sunny Side Up - the 21st century hits a Spanish village and Inside Andalusia, his books include fiction and the critically acclaimed documentary Between Two Fires -- Guerrilla war in the Spanish sierras.
"This account of life in an Andalusian pueblo is different...Baird's ironic glance back over the past 30 years is recommended reading for anyone who has ever wondered what happened to 'the real Spain'" -- Anthony Sattin, Sunday Times, UK
"This book is a tale of a vanishing way of life. As Franco dies, Spain loses its isolation and the villagers gradually swap community and wells for |TV and modern plumbing. It's well worth a read for its wit and nostalgia value" -- everythingSpain, UK
"Where Baird's book stands alone is that it is written by a skilled journalist and travel writer...a closely observed, always entertaining, understanding and perceptive account of a vanished way of life" -- Costa Blanca News, Spain
-- German edition review, Verlag Winfried Jenior, Kassel.
