Synopsis

About the Author

Lev Tolstói (Leo Tolstoy) was a Russian novelist, essayist, and dramatist considered a master of realist fiction. His most famous works include the novels Anna Karenina, The Death of Ivan Ilych, and War and Peace. Víctor Andresco is a translator, a cultural mediator, and a literary critic who has worked with prominent Spanish publications such as ABC and El País. With a degree in Slavic philology, he was the director of the Cervantes Institute in Moscow for four years. He currently directs the Cervantes Institute in Athens. Irene and Laura Andresco have previously collaborated on a translation of Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

Es esta una obra tardia de Tolstoi, publicada practicamente a la muerte del autor. Puede leerse como un autentico estudio etnologico y sociologico por su caracter costumbrista en la exposicion de la vida de los campesinos. Pero hay en ella un inequivoco sesgo politico y social y una denuncia del despotismo. El protagonista de la novela, Hadji Murat, esta basado en un personaje historico checheno. --Los editores
