El epistolario entre los dos artistas, uno de los más vibrantes del siglo XX, es la mejor herramienta para profundizar en aquella relación, aunque en algunas ocasiones nos obligue a leer entre líneas. Hasta la fecha, nunca se había reunido la totalidad de las cartas conservadas de Lorca y Dalí, a las que se suman en este libro las que el poeta cruzó con la hermana y el padre del pintor, así como con Lídia de Cadaqués, uno de los personajes míticos del universo daliniano. En estas cartas, Lorca nos muestra lo mejor de sí mismo y de su poesía, tratado de seducir con la palabra a un Dalí que quiere estar a la altura intelectual del poeta y que, para ello, despliega todo su ingenio y sentido del humor. En ellas vemos cómo Dalí absorbe la poesía de Lorca y la incorpora a su propio genio y cómo Lorca se impregna de la locura surrealista de Dalí para enriquecer su forma de captar la realidad.
