Alberto [Vasconcellos] da Costa e Silva (born São Paulo, 1931), diplomat, poet, essayist, memoirist and historian, was awarded the Prémio Camões for the body of his work in 2014. He was ambassador of Brazil in Portugal from 1986 to 1990, in Colombia from 1990 to 1993 and in Paraguay from 1993 to 1995. In 2004 he was selected by the União Brasileira de Escritores as "Intellectual do Ano". He has written at least seven volumes of poetry, five of history (concentrating on slavery and Africa), four of essays and literary history, a memoir, and organized at least six anthologies.***.
