A guide to the present state-of-the-art in periodontics. Its purpose is to indicate current knowledge on periodontal therapy, based on the recognition of the need for scientific data to justify therapeutic procedures. The text includes synopses of clinical studies of various aspects of periodontal therapy. An attempt is made to cover a sufficient number of studies to allow analysis of what can be expected as a result of the different therapies. Furthermore, conclusions which can be made at present, as well as the limitations of the available research are pointed out.
