The concepts of genre and ritual are central for the overall occupation with the relationship between the History of the Arts and the History of Christianity in Western Culture. The present special issue of the journal TRANSfiguration sheds light on the complex relationship between the two broad and difficult terms, genre and ritual, within the cultural history of Europe.

About the Author
Nils Holger Petersen is associate professor and appointed centre leader at the Centre for the Study of the Cultural Heritage of Medieval Rituals, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen. Mette Birkedal Bruun is post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for the Study of the Cultural Heritage of Medieval Rituals, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen. Jens Fleishcer is associate professor at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen. Eyolf Ostrem is post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for the Study of the Cultural Heritage of Medieval Rituals, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen.
