Illustrator Miroslav aek grew up in Prague and left his homeland in 1947 to find success drawing travel books designed for children. He lived in Paris but was often off globetrotting, gathering inspiration and making sketches for his illustrations. Questa non è una pietra is the particular account of one of his Roman holidays, where he imagines Moses taking a Vespa to reach the Sinai, Nero watching Rome burn on the television, a satisfied Medusa observing her new hairstyle in the mirror, Cicero addressing the major broadcast networks, David in the act of mugging his next victim, the Discobolus poised and ready to knock down all nine pins, and many other humorous graphic impertinences.
