Synopsis
This celebration of the prolific, 50-year career of Martin Scorsese offers a visual tour of the great director’s life in cinema through an extended interview and more than 300 reproductions, including film stills, posters, photographs by Scorsese, shots from the sets of such movies as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Aviator and The Departed, and a wealth of related ephemera. In the interview, Scorsese discusses how his New York childhood as the son of Italian immigrants molded his creativity, as well as his influences and his working methods. These recollections are juxtaposed with accounts from Scorsese’s associates and with critical commentary assessing the director’s singular vision, which has so enormously impacted the American cinematic imagination. Also included is a complete filmography, from 1963’s What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This? to 2011’s Hugo.
