Carlo Cardazzo (1908-63) was a friend of Peggy Guggenheim and Carlo Scarpa and a great gallery owner and patron (among others, of Fontana, Burri, Morandi and Carrà). Founder of the Galleria del Naviglio in Milan and the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice, he was the first in Italy to introduce artists of the caliber of Arp, Léger, Pollock, Kline, Calder, Rothko, Twombly, Dubuffet to the public. The occasion not only allows us to cast a critical gaze on one of the protagonists of 20th century art, but also allows us to benefit from some documents, objects and publications, and manuscripts, which reflect the versatility of his interests. Paperback. Condition: Near fine in wraps. First Edition. 24 x 28cm 428pp near fine exhibition catalogue, Italian text, colour plus black and white reproductions. In this 60th anniversary year of Peggy Guggenheim s collection in Venice, her museum hosted an exhibition dedicated to a major figure in Italian and international art of the mid 20th century: Carlo Cardazzo (1908-1963), a Venetian whose centenary is this year and who shared with Peggy Guggenheim his passion for contemporary art. Carlo Cardazzo. A New Vision for Art, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, 1 November 2008 9 February 2009, is the first exhibition to be devoted exclusively to this enterprising, even volcanic figure: patron, publisher, collector, and dealer. Cardazzo, through the multiplicity of his activities, the originality of his way of navigating the art world and his methods of promoting it, reached a new public, in part through his galleries, and in part through novel cultural strategies.A heavy book, may need extra postage.
