English / Français / Español El catálogo razonado "Julio Gonzalez - escultura" fue establecido por Jörn Merkert y publicado por la editorial Electa (Milán) en 1987, bajo los auspicios del IVAM / Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno - Centro Julio Gonzalez (Valencia). Después de una introducción por Tomas Llorens y una introducción por Margit Rowell ( "La génesis de la escultura de hierro"), el autor enumera todas las obras del artista, o 249 referencias entre "Eva" (cobre repujado - circa 1900-1910) y su última escultura, "Cabeza de Montserrat gritando", realizado en 1942, fecha de la desaparición del artista. A key figure of the 20th century: a little-known artist whose work developed over the short span of fourteen years. A French sculptor of Spanish origin, González lived in Paris and was a friend of Picasso and Brancusi. Working almost exclusively with beaten and cut metal, he first used this technique to create a series of faces and masks in an extremely synthetic style, similar to certain modules of cubism and African art. In the 1930s-40s his sculptures were slender, branching structures, abstract or portraying stylized female figures or surreal plant-men .
