Synopsis

The Bally Shoe Company was founded in 1851 by Carl Franz Bally (1821―1899) and his brother Fritz in the basement of their family home in Switzerland. By 1854 the shoe company was operating under the corporate name C. F. Bally. After more than 150 years, Bally has come to represent quality and design. This book illustrates the history of Bally up to the early 1960s, when the public embraced the development of footwear design that embraced comfort, lifestyle, and elegance. Through a vast array of color photographs, period illustrations, and vintage posters, the book presents Bally designs that have intrigued and enchanted us for over a century. The pictures illustrate the evolution of styles from the end of the 19th century, when Bally stepped boldly into the international market. Bally features the different fabrics, embroidery, colors, and weaves of one hundred shoes carefully selected from the Bally Shoe Museum of Zurich.
