Giacchè siamo ancora vivi ... faccimoci vivi, this is how Monk Nilo Borgia began his March 1939 letter to Monk Daniele Barbiellini who at that time was working in Elbasan, central Albania. Borgia, a scholar and prolific ecclesiastical historian, informed Barbiellini that he had begun his work on the second volume of the history of Basilian Monks in Albania. Borgia was making no promise to write the third volume of the history of the monks in Albania. In fact, in 1939 that history was still unfolding. Borgia, who died after three years, in 1942, was asking Barbiellini to write that part of the history of the Basilians in Albania. Neither Borgia nor Barbiellini would have anticipated that a woman would investigate this multi-layered Basilian Monks history in Albania.
