This volume examines the history of the 18th-Century secret order of the Golden Rosicrucians (Gold- und Rosenkreuzer), one of the most mysterious, exclusive and successful Masonic societies in the German speaking countries of that time. The order and its esoteric roots have so far never been examined on the basis of original documents. The formation and development, the hierarchical structure, leading figures such as princes and ministers, and the system of degrees and secret teachings are explored in-depth and interpreted applying recent and innovative concepts of the Study of Western Esotericism.

About the Author
Renko D. Geffarth, Dr. phil. (2004) in History, Universität Halle-Wittenberg, is Postdoctoral Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies, Universität Halle-Wittenberg. He has published on the secret order of the Gold- und Rosenkreuz and on 19th-Century political history.

Additional friendly note tucked inside from Geffarth to Reill discussing the publication of the book and the birth of Geffarth's daughter. Text in German. Explores the previously untold history of the highly mysterious Order of the Golden and Rosy Cross (Golden Rosicrucians), an 18th century German masonic secret society which claimed to have esoteric knowledge.
